Reactor Materials Research Group

The knowledge on the embrittlement of reactor vessel due to irradiation is an important factor for the lifetime extension of the Paks NPP. Numerical models and methodologies have been developed for the pressurized thermal shock (PTS) analysis for the reactors of Paks NPP. As part of the PTS analysis thermo-mechanical and fractures mechanics calculations have been completed recently.

In the frame of the national financed NAP NUKENERG project the investigation of materials for the Generation IV reactors and fusion devices has been addressed. The controlled temperature irradiation rig is upgraded for higher temperature irradiations (up to 500ºC) and further development of in-pile creep and fatigue devices are planned.

Studies on the application of the Master Curve methodology, radiation ageing of advanced ceramic materials, are among the important areas.
